the F8 Festival in Makassar 2025

September 2025, Makassar, Indonesia – The Philippine Consulate General in Manado, along with the Filipino community in Makassar, proudly participated in the F8 Festival 2025, held at Transmall Makassar from 24 to 26 September 2025.
Former Makassar City Mayor Mohammad Ramdhan “Danny” Pomanto and Karisma Event Nusantara organized the F8 Festival. The event is recognized as one of the top ten (10) national events of Indonesia for the past decade.
Beyond its entertainment value, the event also serves as a platform for cultural exchange and collaboration among participating countries. It is an event that combines Indonesia's diverse artistic, cultural, and gastronomic potential within the framework of a Food, Fashion, Fusion Music, Film, Fine Art, Fiction Writers, Folks, and Flora and Fauna (F8) Festival in the City of Makassar.
The Philippine Consulate General in Manado, represented by Vice Consul Manfred Neale Manalo and Cultural Officer Myra Gonzales, participated in the event by attending the
opening night on 24 September 2025. They were able to personally meet Mr. Pomanto and congratulate him on the event’s success.
The Guest of Honor was Vice Minister for Tourism Ni Luh Puspa, who flew in from Jakarta. Hon. Puspa called the event a resounding success and recognized Mr. Pomanto’s efforts in highlighting the cultural diversity and rich traditions of South Sulawesi.

Mr. Pomanto, in his opening speech, thanked guests for coming and highlighted the status of F8 as an outstanding showcase of Makassar and international culture. He hoped that the F8 would continue as a tradition into the future.

The musical performances were a blend of Western and Indonesian music, featuring performers from diverse age groups. Participants aged 12 to 60 belted out tunes with matching dance numbers. Some of the musical numbers included dance performances from schoolchildren in Makassar showcasing Western and Indonesian music, professional singers dedicating their songs to the Indonesian citizens who lost their lives in the September 2025 demonstrations in Indonesia, and traditional cultural dances from seasoned dancers highlighting local Makassar culture.

In the following days from 25 and 26 September 2025, the Philippine Consulate General also showcased Filipino culture in a booth at the fairgrounds from 5 pm to 9 pm, with Filipino community members Mr. Wilfredo Dolor Mendoza Jr., Ms. Ann Banguis, and Ms. Divina Dela Torre organizing a Tumbang Preso game for the Indonesian guests to try. For every person who played Tumbang Preso, the Philippine Consulate General handed out snacks from URC and Oishi, Filipino companies that had a market presence in Indonesia.

The Filipino community members also prepared Filipino delicacies such as Turon (Banana fritters) and Leche Flan (pudding) for the Indonesian guests to try out, with some remarking that the taste of the delicacies was unique and delicious. Many of the Indonesian guests commented on the uniqueness of Filipino food and games, and enjoyed the experience at the booth.
